I think I owe you an apology. Last month I got a bit cross at the fact that IE6 users had increased in percentage. Now, according to the browser statistics at w3schools.com, that was still the case however I have since discovered that these stats are based on visitors visiting the w3schools site only and therefore do not give an accurate portrayal of browser use across the whole internet.

The problem with the w3schools.com site is that it tends to get visited primarily by techies and nerds who wear librarian green corduroy jeans and plimsoles. What we want is a more general 'market research' type range of internet users, you know, the type that includes single mums who shop in Aldi and other terrible sweeping generalisations.

I've found a better set of browser statistics at w3counter.com as they take their data from over 30,000 websites giving a more accurate impression of browser usage. So like a D-list celebrity who's just hit the big time, I'm dumping my old taxi-driving boyfriend (w3schools) for a ugly but incredibly wealthy Premiership footballer (w3counter).

So what am I apologising for? Well, based on these new statistics, we have seen a steady decrease each month since October (thats when I started boring you all with this, remember) and not, as I was complaining about last time, an increase.

The stats should now read:

  • September 2009 - 13.28%
  • October 2009 - 12.83%
  • November 2009 - 12.57%
  • Nice use of bullet points

The good news is that Internet Explorer 6 users are now down to 11.44% according to the December 2009 results. Take that IE6!

Thats it, laugh at them, yeah laugh and mock. Now kick them, go on, right up the arse. Yeah that's good. Now steal their lunch money. Don't come back around this neighbourhood IE6, unless you want a serious bunch of fives.

Remember kids, keep upgrading.
